You will never forget the first day you tried Prosperity Dumpling NYC.

Hello Amigos,

Yummmmmmmmmmm I LOVE closeups!!!

Today is your lucky day. I'm gonna let you in on one of New York's best kept secrets:

PROSPERITY DUMPLING
- 46 Eldridge St. #1. (btwn Canal & Hester st. LES/Chinatown)

Only the real New Yorkers go here to eat the best dumplings in NYC (5 x fried Pork & Chive dumplings for $1!!) and Wonton Soup (with or without noodles $3.50/$1.25).

Pork & Chive fried dumpling with a little
Soy sauce & Sriracha hot sauce...Ooooooh YUMMY!...

 Wonton Soup without noodles...

Extensive menu & extremely affordable...

I've been living in NYC for almost 5 years now and 3 years ago I was fortunate enough to have one of my oldest best mates Didi (www.didisfood.com.au) come over to visit me...I will never truly know whether he came to see me or to seize the opportunity to visit a foreign country to seek out his debilitating addiction: DUMPLINGS...
Here's something you should understand before reading any further: Didi is just as passionately obsessed (bordering on savant-like skills) with food as I am.
So we decided to launch headlong into finding the best dumplings NYC had to offer.
We started out by researching (cough) i mean Googled what the online community considered the best Dumplings in NYC...we checked them out and ate a few - they failed.
We tried walking in off the street to a few places that looked, smelled and seemed that they could be winners. Now, even though they didn't completely fail, we were not impressed.
So the next day (and to this day i still don't know how he did it) Didi came over to my apartment early and said the magic words: "Prosperity Dumpling - We're going right now." We went there and were transported to heaven. I tried 5 for $1 and Didi had 10 for $2 and then, i'm not ashamed to say it, we went straight back in for more...

Now my Mum, Dad, Sister and countless great Aussie mates all LOVE Prosperity Dumpling and miss it when they are in Oz...

It's a big call to say that they are the best in town...seeing as there are literally hundreds of dumpling houses in NYC. The thing about Prosperity Dumpling is that the dumplings are always freshly cooked (because they are in such high demand), all the delicious food on the menu is cheap and it is so hidden away that not only will you feel like you discovered it all by yourself but the wait isn't long until you're immersed in dumpling heaven...

Most people say that a work friend guided them to Prosperity and even some lucky people happen to find it all by themselves! They would have to be very lucky or lost and hungry because if you saw this place from the outside and didn't know how good they were, you would definitely keep walking...

This tiny hole in the wall isn't very kind on the eye but what they lack in beauty they make up for in pure succulency!
The majority of the place is taken up with a 3 Wok burner, a tiny preparation area/kitchen where a small army of women make dumplings alldayeveryday and fridges running all the way along 1 wall (this is a good sign in my book)... up the front, they only seat 6 people max. but never fear! there are some public tables and chairs nearby on Hester St. to enjoy your scrumptious food...

So in wrapping up (please excuse the pun...) these are so delicious that I can't describe how good they taste...you simply must get one of these in your gob.
Make sure you ask him for crispy ones!! the textural difference is something to die for...

This is how I like to eat them...!
You can tell which one of us has been to
Prosperity Dumpling today!

Enjoy!

See you again soon...

Hi, my name is Tom O'Neill. I am a young(ish) Aussie fella from Melbourne living in New York City for the past 5 years... like many of us out there: I love tasty good food! It's gotta have flavour!
It can be from any culture, cuisine or country and if it's oooooohyummy! (as my 2 year old son often says clenching his little fists and smiling with pure joy) I want it!...I'm not sure if you fully get me yet, so to put it simply: I have a serious fascination, desire, obsession, enthusiasm, energy, passion and appetite for food.
With around 28,002 places to get food (that's hot, cold or raw) in NYC you'd have to say that you're in tastebud heaven Tommo! Well, i'll have to agree with you there. I truly am. Here's a little colourful breakdown of the cuisinal regions of NYC from our friends at www.verysmallarray.com and The Village Voice:

Thanks for all the hard work people, très interesting! (i hope it's ok to share these magnificent works of art with the hungry masses...)
Of course you'll find sprinkled (that definitely won't be the last intended or unintended foodie pun you'll get from me) through all the different cuisine areas of The Big Apple, special little gems selling food of a different cuisine entirely! "What a delicious adventure!" I hear you say! Yep, they're all extremely tasty morsels for your tongues and tummies to tantalizingly tuck into! I will try to cover as much of it as is humanly possible...Essentially I will be writing this blog to share my thoughts and the experiences I have with the food of this great city and the parts of Earth that I am fortunate enough to drop into from time to time... AND being that I am from Australia and have, for the better part of my life, been devouring all my mum's >>

>>luscious food (more about that later! I promise) and much of the tasty tucker of my beautiful homeland supermarkets and restaurants this blog will be for Aussies coming to New York City but, of course, it's for y'all out there interested in a passionate online yarn (that's Aussie for blog) about the exquisite lip-smacking stuff we have to gobble down everyday to stay alive. I promise it will be full of the food I love, some great stories about food n' friends, international yumyums and maybe some recipes thrown in there for good measure...
I hope you will enjoy the read and that I can open your eyes, gullets and minds to some memorable munching!
Here's a little tease for what's coming up next time... OH MY GAWD!!!!! you won't believe how good these are until you have one in ya gob....catch ya soon amigos!
